Welcome
The Wells Sail Experience Project offers young people the experience of a day's
sailing in traditional open boats in and around the harbour and creeks of Wells-next-the-Sea on the
North Norfolk Coast. The project particularly aims to reach young people with no other access to
sail boats.
Established in 2006 by the 1st Wells Sea Scouts, the project has acquired a Drascombe Lugger
sailboat, a small open motor boat and all essential safety equiment, with the help of Awards for All, the
Local Network Fund and donors to the Scouts.
During 2006, dozens of local children spent time in the boats Teal and Pintail in
Wells Harbour and a larger programme is planned for 2007.
The project is run with CRB checked volunteers with appropriate sailing qualifications and
insurance. It is open to anyone but gives priority to youth groups, schools, special needs groups and
particularly children, local or otherwise, who are not normally able to experience this type of activity. Fees
are kept to an absolute minimum.
If you'd like to know more, want to book a sailing day or would like to help support or work with
the project, please use our contact form.
